Houston has won six games in a row, at least going into Wednesday night’s game in Oklahoma City.
The Rockets beat the Thunder on Monday and will be tasked with doing it again before playing this game as the second in a back-to-back.
Dumping James Harden and putting the team in control of a young head coach and a few former All-Stars trying to prove they are not done has made Houston one of the most likable teams going.
It destroyed OKC on Monday, 136–106. Seven guys finished in double-figures, led by Eric Gordon, who scored 25 off the bench.
John Wall scored 18 points, despite not attempting a free throw. He shot 7-for-12 from the field.
Danuel House shot the lights out off the bench and DeMarcus Cousins stayed aggressive, shooting 5-for-14 and grabbing four offensive rebounds. As importantly, he didn’t turn it over.
Wall will not play on Wednesday for no other reason than to manage his minutes. That should mean he’ll be ready to take on Ja Morant in this one.
Morant has made a conscious effort to get his teammates involved since the Grizzlies returned from a long layoff due to coronavirus protocol.
He has attempted an average of just 11 shots per game in the three games, of which Memphis won two.
Morant’s unselfish play has unlocked Memphis’ depth and allowed guys like Dillon Brooks, Kyle Anderson, Desmond Bane, Gorgui Dieng, Brandon Clarke and DeAnthony Melton to get into double-figures on a consistent basis.
But the Grizzlies still move with Morant and when he struggles, like he did in the team’s most recent 134–116 loss in Indiana on Monday, they do too.
Memphis didn’t shoot it well from outside in the loss but Bane continued his historic pace by making three out of his six attempts.
His three-point percentage actually ticked down, to 50.8 percent. He’s made 31 of his 61 attempts on the year.

Free Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction: Memphis covers at home.
Wall coming into this one rested does move the needle just a little bit but Memphis is the better team on its home floor and so covering one point doesn’t feel like too much to ask.
Look for Morant to get the best of his matchup with Wall and for the Grizzlies depth to outplay Houston’s too.
